Swimming
Basic Equipment Print

One of the greatest things about swimming is that it requires very little equipment to get started. If you are learning how to swim, you may need aid devices to keep you afloat, such as arm bands or swimming floats.

Swimming costumes
The swimming costume should be tight so that it is aerodynamic but it must also be comfortable. For more competitive swimming the ‘body skin’ has been developed to hold the body in an aerodynamic shape and reduce skin drag in competitions.

Swimming hat
Are made of latex or silicone to hold your hair in, to improve aerodynamics and are also used for hygiene reasons.

Swimming goggles
Swimming goggles are water tight to prevent water from irritating the swimmer eyes and allow the swimmer to see underwater to know where they are going.

Ear plugs
Designed to fit comfortably in the ear and protects swimmers from water getting into the ear canal.
